Civil War Fractional Currency: Pocket Change of the North

Robert Kravitz

Robert J. Kravitz, a dealer in quality coins and currency for over 30 years, has appraised, bought and sold coins and currency nationwide. He is a life member of the American Numismatic Association; a life member and member of the Board of Governors of both the Society of Paper Money Collectors and the Missouri Numismatic Society; and a member of the Professional Currency Dealers Association. His "A Collectors Guide to Postage and Fractional Currency” was the 2004 Award Winning book of the Professional Currency Dealers Association.

In Missouri, by December of 1861 nearly all coinage had been “removed” from circulation as it was being horded for its intrinsic value in preference to the paper money offered by the USA and the CSA. By his time New York banks suspended “specie payment”. Mr. Kravitz will provide an introduction to Fractional Currency, the pocket change of the north.

Please join us on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. Time, cost, and location information.
