Battle of Newtonia

There were nearly ten thousand troops at the Battle of Newtonia. It was the only major battle where Native American Indians were fighting on both sides. He will furnish some maps of the battle so we can follow along during his presentation. There were two different battles at Newtonia and at least one rear guard action.

Speaker: Michael E. Banasik

After twenty years he retired from the U.S. Army in 1992 as a Major. His interest in the Civil War started in the 1960’s while he was a youth. He will be bringing books with him to sell. He will have a special set of books that deal with his series of books dealing with the Civil War West of the Mississippi. This series is called “Unwritten Chapters of the Civil War West of the Mississippi River.” An extra book not usually included in this series will be his book about the Battle at Prairie Grove Arkansas. He will offer this set for sell for $150.00. The book about Prairie Grove alone is selling in places for up to $150.00 because it is no longer in print. He referred to the Battle at Prairie Grove as December 7th the Day everyone forgets. A little play on words considering that the bombing of Pearl Harbor is referred to as the Day of Infamy. He will also have other books for sale.
